Tunisia Flag

The national flag of Tunisia is predominantly red and consists of a white circle in the middle containing a red crescent around a five-pointed star. Originally design by Al-Husayn II ibn Mahmud 20 October 1827 then was adopted in 1831 or 1835, making Tunisia's flag one of the world's oldest flags. It remained the country's official flag during its time as a French protectorate, and was confirmed as the national flag of the Republic of Tunisia with the signing of the Constitution of Tunisia on 1 June 1959. It was not until 30 June 1999 that its proportions and design were clearly specified in law.

The red color was the color adopted by the Ottoman Empire who ruled Tunisia from late 16th century until 1881. It also came to represent resistance.

The white color is for purity of heart

The stars indicate the five rules of Islam
  1. Ashahada ( wards to enter in Islam the first time )
  2. Assalat ( Prayer )
  3. Azzakat ( Giving a part of the income to poor and deprived people )
  4. Assiyam ( Fasting one month each year )
  5. Al Hajj ( Visiting Mekka : Pilgrimage at least once in the hole life for those who can afford that only )
The crescent indicated the arabic months.
